The town of McAdenville, located in the eastern section of Gaston County, is known as "Christmas Town USA." Sponsored by Pharr Yarns, Inc. and town volunteers, the small town puts on a display of Christmas lights that attract over 350,000 visitors through the town from the day after Thanksgiving until the day after Christmas. It's a tradition in Gaston County that is over 42 years old, attracting young and old for its splendor and beauty.

Gaston County is an area which is rich in history yet progressive enough for economic and civic expansion.

   

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, a world-class botanical garden, is located in the city of Belmont.
The Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium features the largest collection of land mammal specimens in the southeast.

Major concert events and upswing cultural affairs are available in nearby Charlotte. Festivals abound throughout the year for that good hometown camaraderie.

   
Medical concerns can be treated at the Gaston Memorial Hospital, a 442-bed award-winning hospital.

Our school system is the 6th largest in the state, serving more than 29,000 students. Several members of our educational system received state recognition last year for teacher, principal and athletic director, as best in their respective fields. We also have two colleges and a textile technology institute.

   
   
Gaston County is also very proud of Michelle Warren, a resident of Gaston, who was named first runner up in the Miss America pageant in September, 1997.
